Texas lawmakers back bills to prosecute fentanyl deaths as murder

The proposals would increase the criminal penalties for people who manufacture or distribute fentanyl, particularly if the drug leads to someone’s death. Combatting the fentanyl crisis is a top priority for Gov. Greg Abbott and other state leaders.
