New laws, ongoing debates: The challenges Houston-area schools face this school year and beyond

As Texas students head back to school, educators and families are adjusting to new laws passed during the 89th Legislative Session. They are also reviewing changes to the STAAR test that will be implemented in several years, following the passage of House Bill 8 (HB 8) by the Legislature on the final day of the second called special session.
